Mountains are an integral part of the Mediterranean region and provide livelihoods for local populations as well as for others who are dependent on them. However, the climate crisis has altered the capacity of mountain areas to produce wealth, goods, and livelihoods. As a result, it is necessary to rethink the economic model, services accessibility, and social inclusion for sustainable future strategies for mountain regions. The Spring School on Sustainable and Inclusive Development in the face of the climate crisis, organized by the MountMed Institute, aims to contribute to the sustainable and inclusive development of mountain communities and territories in the Mediterranean region.
The event: The Spring School will take place from 2nd-6th May 2023 in Troodos, Cyprus. The event will be organized by the University of Thessaly, the Cyprus University of Technology, and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research of the University of Lausanne, with the technical support of the Forum Origin, Diversity and Territories.
Participants:
The training is addressed to Master and PhD students, post-PhD researchers, young researchers, and professors in disciplines such as rural development, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences, marketing and business, ecology, geography, conservation biology, and forestry. The training is suitable for those interested in studying in a multicultural and interdisciplinary environment on issues of sustainable development in Mediterranean mountainous areas.
Objectives:
The Spring School aims to provide insights into sustainable and inclusive development in the face of the climate crisis, with a focus on Mediterranean mountain areas. The training will involve speakers and facilitators from various European countries who will provide training mainly in English. The training will also involve some group work sessions in Greek, French, and Spanish.
Content:
