The ODT 2022 Forum will take place in Saignelégier, in the Swiss Jura.
Saignelégier is the capital of the Franches-Montagnes, one of the three districts in the Canton of Jura. It comprises the communes of Saignelégier, Les Pommerats and Goumois. The area covers 3,175 ha, at an altitude of about 980 m, stretching from the edge of the Doubs to the Etang de la Gruère.
What to visit in Saignelegier?
- The Roman-Catholic church of Our Lady of the Assumption, built in 1927-1928 in neo-Baroque style, with a high altar from the former Bellelay Abbey.
- The prefecture served as the administrative residence of the bishop’s bailiff. The massive, hipped-roof building with the adjacent prison tower dates from the end of the 16th century.
- The hamlet of Les Cerlatez, south-east of Saignelégier, a typical Franches-Montagnes farm.
- Étang de la Gruère, one of the most beautiful natural environments in Saignelegier. The pond itself was created in the 17th century to feed a grain mill, hence its name, which recalls the oat “groats”. The area around the pond is a bog formed 12,000 years ago, the pond is 500m long, 60m wide and 4.5m deep.
The town organises various events throughout the year. On the second weekend in August, the “Marché-concours de Saignelégier” takes place, the Franche-Montagne horse is the symbol of the canton of Jura. During the winter, the dog sled race takes place. Other events: Les 4 foulées, Comptoir franc-montagnard, Marché bio, Marché de Noël, Baitchai, JuraDéfi, Salon du mieux-vivre, SnowUp.
